Connecting HP ENVY x360 to a tv display using HP USB-C to HDMI 2.0 Adaper and a HDMI cable

So, when i bought this laptop it came with a USB-C to HDMI 2.0 Adapter but why can't i use it to connect to a tv display using the adaptor and a hdmi cable. Is there any drivers to download or else? The adaptor itself is straight out of the package and i don't think anything is broken because my tv recognise something but doesn't want to display it. Please anyone help me in this case i would very much appreciate it. Thankyou in advance.
