Hi there,
I've recently purchased a HP G5 Docking Station, but so far i've been unable to get my ethernet cable to connect directly through the dock to my Macbook M2 Pro. My operating system is MacOS Ventura: Version 13.3.1 (a).
I have a HP ethernet to USB adapter, but even when i attempt to plug this in to the hub, it is not connecting.
I also have HP G2 Travel Dock, which i got through work. So far the only way i can connect is by plugging the ethernet cable into the ethernet/USB adaptor, and then plugging this into my G2 travel doc, then plugging this directly into my computer. (The fact this works rules out general issues with my mac or with the ethernet cable/connection).
Clearly i expected that the G5 dock would be an upgrade on my travel dock, and i'd strongly prefer not to have to keep plugging in two cords from two HP docks just to use the internet. Do you have any advice for how i can connect my ethernet directly to my computer via the G5 dock?
Thanks,
Matt.

Hi @Matt_Melb_Aus,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're facing connectivity issues with your HP G5 Docking Station and the Ethernet connection. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Check the connections:
- Ensure that the HP G5 Docking Station is securely connected to your MacBook Pro.
- Confirm that the Ethernet cable is properly plugged into the docking station.
Update drivers and firmware:
- Visit the HP official website and check for any available firmware or driver updates for your HP G5 Docking Station. Install the latest updates to ensure compatibility with your MacBook Pro and the latest macOS version.
USB-C Connection:
- Make sure you are using a compatible USB-C port on your MacBook Pro for connecting the HP G5 Docking Station. Some USB-C ports may have specific functions, and using the wrong one might cause issues.
Power Cycle:
- Disconnect the docking station from your MacBook Pro and power cycle the dock. Unplug its power adapter for about 10-15 seconds and then reconnect it. Reconnect the dock to your MacBook Pro and check if the Ethernet connection works.
Ethernet Adapter Compatibility:
- Ensure that the HP Ethernet to USB adapter is compatible with macOS Ventura.
Check Network Settings:
- Open the "Network" settings on your MacBook Pro and check if the Ethernet connection is recognized. You can try renewing the DHCP lease or manually configuring the network settings.
Reset Network Configuration:
- In your MacBook Pro, you can try resetting the network configuration. Go to "System Preferences" > "Network," select the Ethernet connection, and click on the minus (-) button to remove it. Then, click on the plus (+) button to add it back.
Verify Security Software:
- Some security software or firewalls may interfere with network connections. Temporarily disable any security software and check if the Ethernet connection works through the HP G5 Docking Station.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
