I want to connect a monitor to my laptop. I understand it wont be touch screen and that is fine. I really need the monitor in addition to the laptop's screen to work effectively.
I updated the driver for the Intel HD 620 graphics card.
I connected the second screen to the HDMI cable, and turned it on. I then moved the selector on this monitor to HDMI, and it says there is no input. I checked on the computer and cannot find the HDMI in devices. When I go into settings and choose display, it only gives me the option to find a wireless display. I want to be able to choose the display hooked into my HDMI port, but it only gives me the wireless option.
Thanks,
Mike

You can use the displays application to rearrange the virtual relationship between the monitors by dragging and dropping the image of the monitor to the left or right. I suspect the external monitor is arranged to the left of the laptop screen (virtually) and if you run the mouse the other way it will get to the other screen.

Have the screen connected when you power up the laptop. Try tapping the WIndows key and the p key at the same time and you should get a popup that lets you toggle through laptop screen only, laptop + external, external only, etc.
If the external screen is not recognized then I would first focus in on the HDMI cable you are using.

Huffer (Provost),
Thank you for the information, it gets me one step closer. I found that the choices allow me to use the bigger screen only, the laptop screen only , or the duplicate screen. The extend function does get both screens to come on, but my laptop shows my desktop with all my files etc... and the other monitor just shows my screen background, but my cursor/mouse will not go to the other monitor.
Thanks,
Mike

Huffer, Thank you so much, your solution was perfect! I feel pretty foolish because the second part should have been pretty easy.
Thanks again!!! Truly appreciate you working this out !!!
