HP Pavilion - 15-cw1598sa
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Pavillion Laptop and want to connect two external displays (one via HDMI, the other via USb-C).

The HDI connected monitor is fine, the USB-C connected monitor is not being registered by by laptop (AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics card) .. any ideas why or how to fix?

Thanks

All,

Just to confirm that Banhien's solution was spot on.  I bought a more expensive version of the adapter suggested having read some product reviews (from Startech.com) and I'm now running x2 external monitors, one via a HDMI port and the other via USB 3.0.

Even though the monitors are exactly the same, the display is a slightly different colour, but I put this down to the different drivers (HDMI port using laptop driver, USB port using the driver from the adapter), I'll no doubt be able to get a closer match by adjusting the settings, but I'll leave that for another day.

Many thanks and hope this also helps some others.

The specs of your machine is

           https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06410523

It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

    Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,

Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                  USB to HDMI Adapter

For more connectivity, please use

                      True Universal Docking Stations

Regards.

Banhien - many thanks for the quick reply, really helpful.

Let me buy the type of adapter you are suggesting and check it out.  If it works (fingers crossed), I'll come back and update the post for others as well.
