HP Pavilion - 14-al118na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have been using my HP laptop with a 4K LG monitor using a HDMI cable. Although, my 4K monitor has a 60Hz refresh rate, I am unable to get this on a 3840x2160 display resolution. The max it goes is up to 30Hz. I have to change the display settings to 1920x1080 to get the 60Hz refresh rate.

After some research on the internet I figured this may have something to do with the HDMI cable I am using to connect the monitor. I am thinking of using a thunderbolt 3 cable to be able to get the max refresh rate of 60Hz on my monitor on a 3840x2160 display setting. The monitor has a thunderbolt logo, so I know the monitor is compatible.

Can anyone please tell me how will I know if I can connect a thunderbolt 3 cable to my laptop?

my laptop model: HP Pavilion - 14-al118na  - has  1 HDMI, 1 USB 2.0 & 2 USB 3.1

Many thanks,

Dheepan

The specs of your machine is

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05402436

It has one HDMI 1.4 port . From the following information, it only supports 4K at 30Hz

FYI. I tested some machines with HDMI 2.0 and 2.0a but not all of them support 4K at 60Hz.

Regards.
