I need to connect to an HDMI cable to display PowerPoint and play videos. For which port should I get an adaptor, USB 3 or the USB-C? Thanks

The specs of your machine is

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06078881

It has

  • 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 2 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge);
  • 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge);
  • 1 HDMI 2.0;
  • 1 headphone/microphone combo

The USB-C to HDMI probably won't work, you need port which has Alt mode. You probably need an adapter which is similar to the following one

               https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/usb-30-to-hdmi-adaptor-usb3hdmi/

BUT why you have to pay more when your machine already has HDMI port ?

Regards.
