A while ago the lower right corner backlight of my display started flickering between on and off. This would usually happen with movement but could also be seemingly random and it now remains off at all times. A little bit of research shows that this could be an issue with the inverter board. Today I disassembled the laptop to get to the board attached below the screen which seems to be the inverter though I am not sure since this does not look ones I have seen in videos of other models where it would be connected with ordinary cables to the display (there are a lack of disassembly videos that I can find for this model). It's connected by what looks like ribbon cables held with electrical tape across the board to the main display. I don't have the tools to test it but after disconnecting the battery and fiddling around with the connection resulted in first all the backlights going off and then after trying again going back to just the one corner being out. I want to try replacing this Inverter board as they do not seem expensive however if this the inverter board I don't know the model is to buy a replacement. So my questions are
1) Is my understanding above correct and that a faulty inverter board may be the reset for the light going out?
2) For this Notebook model (Pavilion 15 Au183sa) what would be a compatible replacement Inverter board?
The only alternative is replacing the whole display which I imagine would definitely fix the issue but that's like £40+ so i'd rather try this option first. Any other solutions are welcome.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
- Have you tried connecting the display to an external monitor or TV?
- Have you checked the display in the BIOS environment?
However, if it's a hardware related issue you might consider replaying the display.
NOTE: HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.
This sounds like hardware related issue with the display. Hence, I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
