Hi @Sarah38,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with a cracked screen of the computer that needs to be fixed. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this occur because of an accidental drop?

For now please try these steps:

Contact HP phone support to get the screen replaced. If the computer only has a standard warranty then there may be a repair fee for fixing it. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

If the computer is out of warranty for more than 3 years, then please contact a local Best Buy or Staples technician to get it repaired as service options with HP may not be available. This is because the original suppliers and manufacturers of the parts that are supplied to HP don't do so anymore and hence service options are not available.

If the cost of repair is almost the same cost of the computer, then you could replace the computer with a new one and get a year's warranty for it and peace of mind.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Sarah,

May I ask how your screen cracked?  I own an HP Envy that's not quite 4 months old, and the screen just randomly cracked on its own.  The computer was not dropped, stepped on, or misused in any way.  The crack just appeared, and it stems from the RIGHT hinge and fanning upward.

David,

My computer is still under warranty, but I have been advised by HP Support that it will be most likely be considered Accidental Damage, even though there was absolutely NO accident to cause this damage.  He said that I am welcome to send it in for evaluation, but if they deem it an accident, I either have to pay over $400 to repair it, or $99 to get my computer sent back to me. If I had done anything to cause this damage, I would absolutely own up to it and just have the thing repaired.  However, this cracked screen is through no fault of my own, and I find it disheartening that HP is providing better customer service for what is obviously a design flaw.

I've been researching cracked screens on HP laptops since I spoke with that HP support representative, and [edit] there are 40+ PAGES on this forum of HP users writing in about the SAME EXACT problem.  I just want HP to step up and do the right thing, and repair my computer because it is still under warranty.
