Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows XP

The laptop 's screen is messed up and seems  to be cracked.  The colors on the laptop blend and in the bottom left there appears to be a black line across the whole bottom part.   The warranty has expired and   I was going to take it to Geek Squad to fix it.  Can HP fix it instead?.  The laptop is only 2 years old.  Only had a 1 yr warranty.

I am currently dealing with a similar issue. I have one of their Chromebooks that developed a defective screen and it IS within the 1 year warranty. Their customer support rep first told me to send it in for repair but after I did they refused to fix it and now want to charge me nearly twice what I paid for the entire Chromebook just for the repair. They claim that it's "customer induced damage" (which it is not, it was just sitting on a table). All that to say, unfortunately I doubt they will help you but you could call and try. I've called several times about their refusal to honor their warranty and can't get through to anyone who will help. They just keep transferring me to someone else or disconnecting the line or the line rings and rings without being answered. Sorry to not be more encouraging but you are not alone. You could also try taking it to one of their repair centers and talk to someone in person.
