Starting today, if I set my cursor a certain size when using the touchpad or a mouse, it stays the same. However, as soon as I use the touch display, it gets bigger. The mouse settings don't change. I can temporarily fix the problem by changing the mouse setting (e.g. from size 2 to 3) and then changing it back. Following the instructions in the previous thread of the same name, I found that the (recommended) scaling for my laptop is 200%, presumably because of the high-res screen. Maybe this is the issue... any recommendations for how to fix it?

@AnuraConsulting, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the detailed explanation! This sounds like a display scaling issue affecting the cursor rendering after using the touchscreen—something that can happen on high-DPI (200% scaling) screens like yours, especially in Windows 11.Here's what you can try to permanently fix or work around the issue:
Force consistent cursor size using Registry Edit
Sometimes, Windows applies different rendering rules for touch vs. mouse input. You can try locking the cursor size.
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
- Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Cursors
- Look for values like:
- Scheme
- CursorBaseSize (if it exists)
- Set the Scheme value to something standard like:
Windows Black (system scheme)
- Then go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Accessibility
- If there's a CursorSize entry, try setting it to your desired size (1, 2, 3, etc.).
- If missing, you can create a new DWORD (32-bit) named CursorSize.
- Restart your computer.
Create a custom cursor scheme
Instead of using built-in scaling-dependent cursors:
- Press Win + I → go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Mouse → Additional mouse settings.
- Go to the Pointers tab.
- Create a custom scheme:
- Choose your cursor icons manually.
- Save the scheme with a name.
- Select and apply your custom scheme.
- Now, Windows is less likely to switch sizes unexpectedly based on input method.
Try lowering display scaling to 175% or 150%
Just to test whether the issue is tied to scaling.
- Go to Settings → Display.
- Change Scale from 200% to 175%.
- Test if the issue persists when using the touchscreen.
If this resolves the issue, then it's definitely DPI-scaling-related. You can weigh whether you prefer perfect scaling or consistent cursor behavior.
Update display and input drivers
Glitches like this can be caused by outdated drivers:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Update:
- Display adapters
- Human Interface Devices → Touchscreen drivers
- Mice and other pointing devices
- Also check Windows Update > Optional Updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
