Compaq F191 18.5-inch Diagonal LED Backlit LCD Monitor
Linux

I have received this monitor from one of my friends. It works well, except I can't control it using DDC/CI (changing brightness, contrast, etc). Changing those from the monitor buttons works fine, but provided that I have to change brightness several times a day, going near the monitor becomes very tiresome and uncomfortable.

So I would like to control the monitor settings from software, and the obvious choice is to use DDC/CI for that. Linux has several tools through which we can interface with DDC/CI-based monitors. But every tool that I have tried, cannot detect the presence of DDC/CI on the monitor's bus.

Troubleshooting I have done:

  1. There is an option "DDC/CI support" in the OSD menu, I have enabled that, but to no avail.
  2. Connected another monitor to that same VGA port, it is getting detected well by those tools and I can change their settings.

My impression is that the HP Compaq monitor probably doesn't properly support the DDC/CI protocol or maybe some non-standard way is supported.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction? I am ready to accept any technical explanation or documentation.
