DVD RW drive will not write to a RW+ or - disc.  I tried 4 different brands including one that was not RW.     It is listed as a UJ8B1.   Under properties is also lists Toshiba MK5061 GSYN.  I have never saved to a disc on this  computer so don't know if it ever worked.  It will play a CD.  I am wondering if it is suppose to write? Maybe it is just read but how can I tell.  No instructions came with this computer.....

You can't "copy" a disk in CD format to one in DVD format.

IF your original disk is an actual CD, you have to have another CD to make a copy of the disk.

You can not "write" to a writeable disk the same way you write to a filesystem on a USB stick or on your drive.

Instead, you have to "burn" a "session" to a writeable disk -- and if the disk already has a session on it, that will append the new one to what was already on the disk.

And, to do this, you need disk "burning" software; you can not use Windows Explorer to copy files and/or folders to it.

I used Roxio Software to copy a installation disc for HP scanner and was trying to burn it to a DVD disc.  The drive would not accept the disc saying it was incompatible.  I don't have any (-) discs, only + in +RW and +R.  They are brand new.  since I have never used this drive except to load the Roxio software onto the computer, I don't know if the drive is meant to burn.  The device is called 3 different things in 3 different places on the computer.  In the Device Manager it is called a DVD-RAM.     When I click on computer to show the drives it calls it a DVD RW Drive.    The properties  say it is model -UJ8B1 and call it CD-ROM Drive.     No specs came with the computer.  It may be I am trying burn and it only plays....any thoughts?

It has been a nightmare  that started with trying install a HP 4070 Scanjet Scanner so I could scan pictures to digital to put onto DVD shows.    HP didn't make drivers for Windows 7.   Long 3 day story......have another Vista computer but slot drive DVD burner won't eject.  Didn't want it to eat my Installation disc so wanted to make a copy to experiment with and try to get my Vista computer to accept the HP Scanjet software.....

Thank you....it accepted a CD-R and copied.  Now I just have to get Vista to accept it as drivers were written for Windows 2000 & XP.  HP didn't update drivers for the 4070 Scanjet scanner.

If you have any suggestions I would appreciate any advice.  I guess I first have to borrow a USB CD player for my VISTA laptop because my slot drive CD drive won't eject.  It was suppose to be a + over the tray drive but it is not like the towers that you can eject with a paper clip.  I don't want to spend any more money on a 6 year old computer (XPS DELL).

Some posters have said they were able to get Vista to accept but I am not sure how.....

Windows 7 absolutely will not accept the software for this scanner....as everyone who has posted about it has expressed too.  So frustrating.
