HP Spectre x360 - 15t-df000 CTO

When plugged into the dell docking station (WD22TB4), the HDMI and Display ports work fine. I can extend my display to 2 monitors concurrently. However, all USB ports do not work on the docking station. Keyboard, mouse, and webcam all do not work when plugged into the dell docking station, but work fine when plugged in directly into my HP laptop.

@FetchLrX,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The issue you are experiencing, where the Dell WD22TB4 docking station provides video output but not USB functionality when connected to your HP Spectre x360 - 15t-df000 CTO, is likely due to Thunderbolt driver and firmware incompatibilities. To try to resolve this, please follow the steps below:

1. Update HP Spectre x360 Thunderbolt Drivers:

HP does not provide specific Windows 11 drivers for the Spectre x360 - 15t-df000 CTO model. However, updating to the latest available Windows 10 drivers can still improve compatibility. Here's how:

  • Visit the HP Support Page:
  • Download and Install the Latest Thunderbolt Driver:
    • Look for the Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver in the list.
    • Download and install the latest version available.
  • Update BIOS (if available):
    • On the same drivers page, check for any available BIOS updates.
    • If an update is available, follow the provided instructions to install it.

Please Note #1: Some users have reported issues accessing the HP Support Assistant or finding Windows 11-specific drivers. If you encounter difficulties, ensure your Windows operating system is up to date, as Microsoft often provides necessary drivers through Windows Updates.

2. Update Dell WD22TB4 Docking Station Firmware:

Ensuring your docking station's firmware is current can resolve many connectivity issues. Here's how to update it:

  • Download the Firmware Update Utility:
  • Install the Firmware Update:
    • Connect the WD22TB4 dock to your laptop.
    • Run the downloaded firmware update utility as an administrator.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Please Note #2: Some users have reported issues with specific components, such as the Ethernet port, which were resolved after updating the dock's firmware. Ensure all components are functioning correctly post-update.

3. Verify Thunderbolt Security Settings in BIOS:

Your laptop's BIOS may have security settings that restrict full functionality of Thunderbolt devices. To adjust these settings:

  • Access BIOS Settings:
    • Restart your laptop.
    • During boot, press the F10 key to enter BIOS setup.
  • Navigate to Thunderbolt Configuration:
    • Within BIOS, go to Advanced > Port Options or Thunderbolt Configuration.
  • Adjust Security Level:
    • Set the Thunderbolt Security Level to "No Security" or "User Authorization".
  • Save and Exit:
    • Save your changes and exit BIOS.
    • Allow your laptop to reboot.

Warning: Altering BIOS settings can impact system security and stability. Proceed with caution and ensure you understand the changes you're making.

4. Authorize the Docking Station in Windows:

Windows may require authorization for new Thunderbolt devices. To check:

  • Open Thunderbolt Control Center:
    • Press the Windows key and type "Thunderbolt Control Center", then press Enter.
  • Authorize the Device:
    • If the Dell dock appears in the list of connected devices, select it.
    • Click on "Approve" or "Always Connect" to authorize the device.

5. Test USB Devices:

After completing the steps above, test the USB ports on the docking station:

  • Connect USB Devices:
    • Attach your keyboard, mouse, and webcam to the dock's USB ports.
  • Verify Functionality:
    • Check if the devices are recognized and functioning correctly.

If issues persist, consider testing the dock with another computer to rule out hardware defects. Additionally, using an HP-certified docking station may offer improved compatibility with your Spectre x360.

By following these steps, you can address the USB connectivity issues between your HP Spectre x360 and the Dell WD22TB4 docking station.

Let me know how it went!

Kind Regards,

Thank you very much for your reply. One thing to note is that I'm now on Windows 11, since I upgraded today.

1. It states all my drivers are up to date. I also performed a system reset since I was having some other issues with the touch screen. That issue has now been resolved, but the others are persisting.

2. When I go to download the dell firmware, it states there is no docking station attached, so it does not recognize the docking station at all even though it is extending my display just fine.

3. I'm not sure how to get to the advanced bios. When I press f10 at boot up, I do get to bios, but there is no advanced option.

4. I don't see an option for Thunderbolt Control Center. I go have something called Thunderbolt Software and when I go to it, I see a port 1 and a port 2 under "Thunderbolt Controller 1", but it does not appear that I can do anything with either of them.

Thank you very much for your help.
