My laptop suddenly puts a New Folder on the screen. I delete it, it appears again and does not stop doing this.
I have never had this problem before how do I stop this?

@MarcFive, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check for Background Processes or Scripts
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Look for any suspicious or unknown processes that might be creating folders.
- If you find anything unusual, right-click and choose Open file location to investigate further.
2. Check Startup Programs
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and go to the Startup tab.
- Alternatively, go to Task Manager > Startup tab.
- Disable any unknown or unnecessary startup items and restart your PC.
3. Scan for Malware
- Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or a trusted antivirus tool.
- You can also use Microsoft Safety Scanner or Malwarebytes for a second opinion.
4. Check Task Scheduler
- Press Win + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter.
- Look for any tasks that might be set to create folders on the desktop.
- Pay special attention to tasks under Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows.
5. Check for OneDrive or Sync Issues
- If you're using OneDrive, it might be syncing a folder from the cloud.
- Right-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray > Settings > Account tab > Choose folders and see if a "New Folder" is being synced.
6. Create a New User Profile
- Sometimes, user profile corruption can cause odd behavior.
- Create a new user account and see if the issue persists there.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
