HP Pavilion - 15-cs3153cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Pavilion laptop model 15-cs3153cl. It has the UHD graphics. The display failed during a Window 10 update. The screen didn’t go off, but the picture went crazy and when it corrected itself, the display is not refreshing or processing correctly somehow. Since that time I cannot look at the screen as it makes me nauseous and almost cross-eyed and gives me a headache. I am sensitive, so if the display is not working right, I get almost motion sick. When I hook it up to an external monitor, it has the same display issues, so I believe it has to be the video card. I do not perceive it to be flickering. I went through all the online trouble shooting, sent it in to HP to have it repaired and all they did was reload Windows, update the bios again, and tell me it was fixed when it wasn’t. The techs could not understand my descriptions and could only get the word ‘blurry’, which isn’t the issue. I took it in to the local HP approved shop and they changed the refresh rate, but that didn’t help at all. They told me to go back to HP again with it. I don’t know how else to describe the problem, and most people don’t have an issue if the display is a bit off. It was just fine until the failure and I am really frustrated. Is there something I’m missing? The screen comes on and the touch works fine.

You said you did a Windows Update -- was this the Optional Update to v20H2?  Asking because folks are reporting serious video issues after that update as some HP video drivers appear to be incompatible with Windows 20H2.

That said, if HP reloaded Windows onto your PC, it should have been an OLDER version and that one does not have issues with the video drivers.

So, let's see what Windows version it is running now.  Enter "winver" (without the quotes) into the Search area and report back what is displayed in the window.

Current version 1909 (OS build 18363.1440).

20H2 version looks familiar, so it's possible, and probable, that it updated to the newest version at that time.

OK, then I don't understand what is causing the problem.  IF it was driver conflict with v20H2, restoring the PC to v1909 should have fixed that.  If you previous had an issue with drivers on v1909, you would have noticed that.

Here's the HP drivers page for your model PC:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-cs3000-laptop-pc-series/29133460/mod...

When the video drivers have a Windows 10 version restriction, the details for each driver mention that.  These details do not mention that, so they should work with anything prior to v20H2.

I have the 26.20.100.7926 Rev.B driver too, so that change didn't help either. It may have been a coincidence that it failed at that time, but I believe I am just going to have to fight them to get the video card replaced or get my money back. I cannot think of anything else to try on it.

Thank you for your help!
