I want to add a second monitor through my USB C port via a USB c to HDMI connector but get a "Display connection might be limited"
It seems the adapter is not compatible. What type of adapter do I need?

what is your HP 17-c1000 (4B770AV) machine ? It could be one of the following ones
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-17.3-inch-laptop-pc-17-c1000/2100852827/product-info
For example HP Laptop 17-cn1003ca
It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to
- Charge your machine,
- Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter
If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use
Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as
Regards.
