HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1023ax
Microsoft Windows 11

HP Pavillion Gaming - 15-ec-1023ax. Using since 2023. Windows 11. After a Windows Update on Jun 11, the display started flickering. The problem went away after I rolled back the update. Now every 2 days the update runs automatically and the flickering starts (goes away after roolback).

How do I skip the update or identify the specific graphics update. I tried pausing updates for a week but it starts off with the problematic update every time.

Hi @Anshamo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out, and I truly understand how frustrating it must be to deal with persistent display flickering on HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1023ax, especially when it’s triggered by an automatic update.

You’ve already done a great job identifying the cause and narrowing it down. Let’s work together to either block the problematic update or better manage your system's update behaviour.

Step 1: Identify the Specific Driver Update

  1. After the update causes flickering, go to:
    • Settings > Windows Update > Update History
    • Look for Driver Updates, especially related to Display Adapters (AMD/NVIDIA).
  2. Note down the driver version and date.

Step 2: Optional – Reinstall the Recommended Driver from HP

You can manually reinstall the recommended graphics driver version for your model:

Step 3: Use the "Show or Hide Updates" Tool (Microsoft Utility)

This will block Windows from reinstalling the problematic update:

  1. Download the tool from Microsoft:
🔗 Windows Update Troubleshooter - Microsoft Support
  2. Run the tool and let it scan.
  3. Select the update you want to hide/block.
  4. Restart the PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
