HP Pavilion 15t-au000 (Product #: T9Y68AV)
Whenever I move the screen, it flickers and shows distorted images (and vertical lines) until I find the sweet spot and the problem goes away. It's gotten progressively worse too. Now, even slight movements will trigger the problem (i.e., the cushion that it sits on shifts as I get up). It seems to be related to the hinges where the LCD connects to the laptop.
Movement at the hinges produces the most striking effects.
I'm guessing that it may be the LCD cable, but I'm not positive. If I were to order a replacement part, I'd want to make sure I was ordering the correct one. partsurfer.hp.com shows a few options.
All the video drivers are up to date.

I am quite confident that this is a display cable issue. To confirm, try gently squeezing certain areas around the keyboard and on the LCD. There shouldn't be much display flicker.
Also, just want to confirm if you are out of warranty - if you aren't, contact HP and they'll replace it for free.

Now I did check your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide here, and it said that the display cable is part number 856346-001 - which conflicts with the HP Spare Parts Store and HP Part Surfer.
I included a screenshot below:
The orange highlighted is what the Guide insists - which is labeled as BEZEL, LCD. I think that the ones you do need is one of the ones I highlighted in blue. It depends on the screen resolution - however it seems that HP does not have it in stock. You'll probably need to get it elsewhere online.
Clarification from an HP Expert will help.

- I squeezed around the keyboard and LCD edges and it did not cause any flickering.
- The laptop is out of warranty
- I found the same parts on the Part Surfer site, but I wanted to make sure I picked the right one
Here is the display information from the order invoice:
- 15.6" diagonal FHD IPS UWVA BrightView WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
From those 3 options of:
- 856354-001 : CABLE, LCD, HD/FHD
- 856357-001 : CABLE, LCD HD TS TOP
- 856358-001 : CABLE, LCD FHD TS TOP
...it seems my choices are between (1) and (3). I don't know if I need one or both. Because the laptop is out of warranty, I didn't have the option to email HP Support and ask. I'd appreciate any guidance here so I can get the correct part and get this issue fixed.

I think I found the correct part you need.
These parts are in exact order of the HP Part Surfer results. If your computer is touch screen, choose the top part, otherwise go for the third part.
I've found multiple results on ebay for the touchscreen display cable but was unable to find any results for the non-touch FDH display cable beside the HP Parts Store:

I believe you may have mixed up the order of the parts you were referring to.
The laptop is not a touchscreen, and in this discourse I realized the "TS" in the part names must be referring to Touch Screen, so now I have a much clearer idea of what part to order.
It would be the first in your screenshot (aka, the top one): 856354-001
We're going to order that and either I'll try to replace it myself, or we'll bring the laptop to someone who does that sort of thing for a living.
If you, or anyone else, has any advice or information in regards to replacing that display cable in these laptops, I'd appreciate whatever you can share. I've never done it, but I have some technical experience.

Glad I could help! Sorry about the mistake. Anyway, I do hope that the correct part was ordered to solve your issue.
In terms of replacement, all I can help at this point is to kindly direct you to your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide here. I think you may be able to take advantage of the steps located on pages 40-41 and 59-62 which refer to display replacements.
There are probably several YouTube videos you could probably use as well. The model number may not matter much - as long as the YouTuber is using a 15 inch Pavilion PC.

Update:
I replaced the LCD cable today. Unfortunately, the problem still persists. At this point, I don't know what it could be other than the LCD itself. Upon taking it apart, I saw that there are only 2 cables running through the hinges. The LCD cable is rather thick, especially compared to the other cable (more of a wire, actually). I'm not sure what the purpose of that other wire is. I'm not inclined to take the laptop apart to replace something on another hunch though.
If there aren't any other ideas, it may be time to shop around for a replacement laptop. It'd be a shame though, as that laptop had the top, parts options selected for that model -- including a sizable SSD, i7 CPU, and discrete graphics chip.
Anymore ideas or suggestions before I throw in the towel?
