Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My notebook has recently developed a white bright spot on the display. It is very distracting especially on white background.

So I am planning to replace the display, The notebook is out-of-warranty so I would preferrably do it myself.

I was looking through some reddit threads and many people there say HP whitelists parts in BIOS, so a component not in the list wouldn't work. That is pretty scummy if that's true and very incoveninent.

I do not wish to get the same display again because it's a very dull and mediocre display. Very low brightness, poor color gamut.

The panel it's using is B156HAN04.1

I wish to replace it with B15HAN04.2 or B156HAN04.5

Would these work? Has anyone replaced the screen on this model of notebook, and if yes which display did you replace it with?

@LuffySan,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see you have a concern regarding the white bright spot on your display. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Did you check for any damage on the PC?

Did you try with an alternate monitor?

Have you checked if the issue persists even in the Bios screen?

Have you tried to update the drivers?

In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the Notebook:

Step 1: Performing a hard reset

Resetting the computer can resolve many issues that cause a blank screen. Use the steps in Performin...

If you haven't, Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,

if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,

if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here

Boot the computer into the Bios screen and check if the screen stays fine.

1. Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the  F10 button repeatedly

If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)

This would confirm if it's either a hardware failure or an issue with the graphics card drivers so we may reinstall and update the drivers to fix the issue as mentioned above.

If the issue persists on BIOS as well, please try with a TV to identify if it's the LCD or the motherboard/video card failure,

If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)

For more assistance, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Notebook and All-in-One PCs - Troubleshooting Screen Issues (Windows 10, 8, 7)

If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, etc.) there could be a additional charges in such cases to get the computer repaired via HP service centers.

I did go through the Product specifications and found that your PC was shipped with 39.62 cm(15.6) diagonal FHD UWVA eDP anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080 Display.

Now go through the Maintenance and service guide of your notebook, here you will find the list of compatible and tested display for your notebook.

Chapter 3. Illustrated parts catalog  ---- Display assembly subcomponents page number 24.

Chapter 5. Removal and replacement procedures for authorized service provider parts ---- Display assembly page number 37.

Display panel - page number 60.

Alternatively, You could replace the part on your own, use the HP Parts surfer to identify the part: Click here & order it via the HP Parts store (Click here).

If you find difficulty replacing the part, I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
