Displayport over USB C not working

I have an HP ENVY Laptop, and according to the user guide, the USB C port has support for Displayport output. I bought a USB C to Displayport cable, but it doesn't work. When I connect to my monitor, it isn't detected. Is there something I have to activate in software, or did the user guide lie about my product?
