Hi @napoliste,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing an issue where the USB-C DisplayPort on your HP Omen 16.1-inch laptop works only with the integrated GPU (iGPU) and not with the dedicated GPU. This is likely due to how the system handles display outputs and GPU switching, especially in laptops with both an integrated and dedicated graphics card.
Here are some potential reasons and solutions.
Dynamic GPU Switching (Optimus Technology): Many laptops with both an integrated GPU (like Intel or AMD) and a dedicated GPU (such as NVIDIA or AMD) use a technology like NVIDIA Optimus. Optimus automatically switches between the integrated and dedicated GPU depending on power and performance needs. The issue you're facing may be due to how the system routes the USB-C port to the integrated GPU instead of the dedicated GPU.- BIOS/UEFI Settings: Some laptops allow you to manually choose which GPU is active for certain ports. Check your BIOS/UEFI settings for any options related to GPU switching or USB-C ports. Look for settings like "Hybrid Graphics," "iGPU/Discrete GPU settings," or "Display Output." Switching this could allow you to force the USB-C DisplayPort to use the dedicated GPU.
- Graphics Control Panel: Depending on your dedicated GPU (e.g., NVIDIA or AMD), there might be settings in their control panels that allow you to manage which GPU is used for specific tasks. You could try setting your external display or USB-C port to always use the dedicated GPU through the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings.
- Driver Updates: Make sure that both your integrated and dedicated GPU drivers are up to date, as well as your USB-C chipset drivers. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause the laptop to not properly switch between the GPUs or not detect the dedicated GPU on certain ports.
- Force the Display Output to Use the Dedicated GPU: In some cases, you may need to use the "NVIDIA Control Panel" (if you have an NVIDIA GPU) or similar software to manually configure the display output to always use the discrete GPU, even for ports like USB-C that usually default to the integrated GPU.
- External Display Settings: If you're using the USB-C port for an external monitor, make sure that the monitor or display settings are configured to take advantage of the dedicated GPU. Some laptops will default to using the integrated GPU for power savings and might not switch unless instructed.
By trying these solutions, you should be able to get the USB-C DisplayPort to work with your dedicated GPU.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I know that Optimus technology allows automatic switching on the GPU but I also noticed that while the HDMI allows me to use exclusively the dedicated GPU, the USB C DisplayPort does not allow the choice even from the Bios or with the suggestions proposed.
