We recently bought a usb-c to hdmi splitter to hook up 2 additional monitors. When hooking it up the two monitors do not get detected. When hooking them straight into the hdmi spot they work. If the laptop usb-c port does not support DP Alt Mode would buying a usb-a to usb-c adapter work or would we need to buy a completely new splitter making sure it is usb-a to hdmi?

Hi @AlleyAlcorta7,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP 14-dq0000 Laptop PC supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode) via the USB-C port, you can follow these steps:
Check Specifications: Refer to the laptop's official specifications on the HP website or the user manual. Look for details about the USB-C port, specifically if it mentions support for DisplayPort Alt Mode.
Use Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section to see the graphics hardware. Right-click on your graphics adapter and select Properties.
- Check the Details tab and select Hardware Ids in the dropdown. This might provide insights into supported features.
USB-C Port Icon: Check if the USB-C port has any icon indicating its capabilities (e.g., a lightning bolt for Thunderbolt or a "DP" symbol for DisplayPort).
Regarding Your Setup
If the USB-C port does not support DP Alt Mode, a USB-A to USB-C adapter will not resolve the issue. This is because USB-A does not support video output, and simply changing the connector type won’t enable video functionality.
Suggested Solutions
New USB-C Splitter: You will need a USB-C to HDMI splitter that specifically supports DP Alt Mode. This splitter should be designed for use with USB-C devices that support video output.
Alternative Options: If you only have a USB-A port available and need to connect external monitors, consider using a USB to HDMI adapter. These adapters typically use DisplayLink technology and require drivers to be installed on your laptop.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
