HP 15.6 (HP 15-da0032wm)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a monitor so I can set up a "dual screen" display for my home work station.  However, my HP 15.6 laptop does not have a "VGA" hookup, and doesn't detect a second screen.  I have the second monitor hooked up via the provided HDMI, but it is duplicating the screen from my laptop.  When I go to the display settings for multiple displays, the options provided are "duplicate this display," "extend this display," "show only on display 1," or "show only on display 2."  I want to be able to have an additional monitor.  I have tried the extend this display option, and I do not like it.    So, my question is...how do I set up a "double screen display" with my HP 15.6 laptop if I don't have the VGA connection on my laptop????  I am open to buying a device that converts VGA to a hookup I have on my laptop, but if there is a better way I would be more open to that!  Thank you!

As you see, you can ONLY have 4 options, no more. I don't think you want the last 2

Therefore you can only use 1 or 2

  • Duplicate desktop — Shows duplicate desktop according to the description.
  • Extend — Expands the primary desktop to the display currently selected.

People normally use option 2. It is up to you to make decision.
