Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I  used to be able to just connect my Laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable.  Now I can't.  Used 3 different cables, 3 different Laptops, and 3 different TV's all in different combinations.  It still says "No Signal".  I do have the correct HDMI port connected to the TV and configured TV to used that port (input).  Why all of a sudden this does not work????

Hi @Debi22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues connecting your laptop to your TV via HDMI and receiving a "No Signal" message despite using different cables, laptops, and TVs, there are several potential reasons for this problem:

1. Faulty HDMI Port or Cable

  • Test Different Ports: Try using different HDMI ports on your TV, as the port you're currently using may be faulty.
  • Try a Different Cable: Even though you've tried different cables, there's still a possibility that all three cables are faulty. Try using a known working HDMI cable to rule out cable issues.

2. Display Settings on Laptop

  • Switch Display Mode: Make sure your laptop is set to extend or duplicate the display to the external monitor. You can usually do this by pressing the "Windows" key + "P" key combination to open the display settings menu.
  • Display Output Setting: Ensure that the correct display output is selected in your laptop's display settings. Sometimes, the laptop may default to the built-in display instead of the HDMI output.

3. TV Input Source

  • Select Correct Input: Make sure you've selected the correct input source on your TV to display the laptop's output. Use the TV remote to cycle through the available input sources until you find the one corresponding to the HDMI port you're using.

4. TV Compatibility

  • Check TV Compatibility: Ensure that your TV is compatible with the resolution and refresh rate output by your laptop. Some older TVs may not support certain resolutions or refresh rates.
  • Test with Another Device: Try connecting another HDMI device, such as a DVD player or gaming console, to the TV to see if it displays properly. This can help determine if the issue is with the TV itself.

5. Driver or Software Issues

  • Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your laptop's graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
  • Check for Software Updates: Make sure your laptop's operating system is up to date. Install any available updates, as they may contain fixes for display-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
