ENVY x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP ENVY x306, 15-bp108ng.

This has a USB-C port like here: https://assets.hardwarezone.com/img/2018/06/hp-envy-x360-rightports.jpg, as well as two USB A ports like those in the picture and an HDMI 2.0 port.

I want to connect two 1920x1080 monitors that run independently of each other without using the laptop monitor. I was planning on getting a port replicator to connect both monitors to. Would this work? If yes, is there any recommendation as to getting a USB-A or USB-C one?

Alternatively, would getting a USB to HDMI cable, then connecting one monitor there and one to the built-in HDMI port work?

Thanks!

Hello @ojasm,

A dual monitor setup utilizing the existing HDMI port and display output of the USB-C port should theoretically work. Display output from a USB A port is unstable and unreliable.

An adapter HP has recommended in this laptop's Maintenance and Service Guide is:

USB Type-C–to–HDMI 2.0 adapter 935325-001

However, a third-party multiport hub can also work with ratings kept in mind.

Once you hook up the monitors, you will have 4 options:

  1. PC Screen only
  2. Duplicate
  3. Extend
  4. Second Screen only

Hope this helps,

Eddy
