HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (70R00AV)

Hi!

I recently bought the HP-15fd0017ci (7P514EA) laptop.

I chose because it is clearly stated that it is flicker-free:

Unfortunately after 5 minutes of work I begin to feel the eye-strain because my eyes are pwm-sensitive.

Could you confirm that this laptop model does not use PWM?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Andr_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I checked various resources but couldn't find specific information confirming whether the HP-15fd0017ci (7P514EA) model uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) for its screen backlight. Generally, the presence of PWM can vary between different models and even among units of the same model, depending on the panel manufacturer and the specific configuration.

However, it's worth noting that HP does advertise some of their laptops as having flicker-free screens, which implies they do not use PWM, or at least not in a range detectable and harmful to most users. For instance, the Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop series, released around May 2022, is advertised as having flicker-free display options, which suggests HP is conscious of flicker and PWM issues in their product designs.

Given your sensitivity to PWM and the fact that you're experiencing eye strain, it's possible that the specific unit you have does use PWM or another factor is contributing to your discomfort. If PWM information is critical for you, you might need to contact HP directly for confirmation on this specific model or consider using external resources or tools that can measure PWM.

It's also a good idea to look at general listings or reviews of laptops that specifically address PWM usage, as these can provide insights into which models and brands prioritize reducing or eliminating PWM in their screens. Websites like NotebookCheck and LaptopMedia often provide detailed analyses of displays, including whether they use PWM

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Dear Rachel571

Thank you for your detailed answer.

I have read it carefully.

It is unfortunate that HP can not answer such a simple question - whether specific model uses PWM.

I can understand if different models can have or have not PWM.

But for one specific model it is very strange that manucturer uses different panels (with or without PWM), ispecially if you mention that it flicker-free in specification.

You mentioned Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop series, released around May 2022 is advertised as having flicker-free display options.

But HP-15fd0017ci (7P514EA) also

advertised as having flicker-free display options.

Please read carefully display panel options here
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_7737544-7737589-16

What's diefference?

I think if you say that the model is flicker-free - it means it should not have PWM.

It is unfortunate that buyer can only trust information from sites like NotebookCheck or LaptopMedia instead of trusting informaion on official hp website.

So the only reason to use HP website is to download drivers and pray that you installed PWM-free panel (like you mention in your specification).

As far as your post did not solve my issue, I can not mark it as accepted solution.

At this moment I considering selling this laptop, then review NotebookCheck or LaptopMedia, and look for real PWM-free laptop.
