EliteBook x360 103 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a EliteBook x360 103 G2 - Product No: IWB83AV.

I have bought a Dell monitor which has a USB-C input, and came with a USB-C to USB-C cable.

https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-ultrasharp-24-usb-c-monitor-u2419hc/apd/210-arbn/monitors-monit...

The intention was to be able to connect the laptop to the monitor with the single USB-C cable to use the monitor whilst also charging the Laptop.

So far, I have been unable to receive a video output on the monitor.

When I connect the monitor via the USB C cable, I am able to "see it" as an option in the Display Settings, but when I try to output to it, the settings just revert back to "in built display".

Before connecting the USB-C cable connected to the monitor:

After a connect the USB-C, option to Extend or Clone the display:

But if I select the options above, and "apply", it reverts back to to single display:

This is what I can find about the laptops capabilities:

The EliteBook x360 1030 G2 is the commercial version of the Spectre and is a convertible notebook geared towards enterprise users.

It has a single Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C port which supports:

  • Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s)
  • DisplayPort 1.2
  • USB Power Delivery based charging in both directions

When connected, the monitor is charging the laptop.

I connected the laptop to the monitor via the HDMI port, and that worked fine.

This isn't ideal though, as I will then need to plug in the laptop to charge (I was looking for a nice simple one cable solution), and I want to connect my desktop PC to the monitor via HDMI without having to disconnect cables each time.

Can someone confirm that I should be able to connect the laptop and monitor with a single USB-C to USB-C cable, and suggest why it's not working for me?

Cheers.

Just found out that there are USB-C Monitor Drivers on the Dell Website.

I don't have permission to install these though (work laptop). Hopefully my IT Dept can sort that and it will work...

So my Work IT Service just installed the drivers as Admin, but I still have the same issue.

Has anyone got any suggestions?
