Elitebook 840 G3

I would like to connect a 14  or 15 inch portable monitor to my Elitebook 840 G3.

Has anyone successfully connected a travel monitor to this laptop? How did you do it? What model of monitor did you use?

I tried one portable monitor, a 14 inch Lenovo ThinkVision, which has two USB-C ports. With a modern laptop, this is supposed to get both power and a video signal from one USB-C cable. However, since my laptop is old, I used one of the monitor's ports to deliver power from the USB port on my laptop, and this did work to deliver power.  I also got a bidirectional DisplayPort to USB-C cable, for the video signal, as this older laptop does not have a USB-C video output port, just a DisplayPort.  This didn't work at all -- the screen is black.

Thanks!
