Until recently my company laptop was an EliteBook 830 G7 which, for the past four years, I have been successfully using with a USB-C G5 Dock and 3 external monitors (with laptop closed). This continued to work after the company upgraded to Windows 11 but other issues with memory and processor speed were occurring so my company has sent a replacement of an 840 G8, which I have been setting up since this morning.
The manual for the 840 G8 specifically says it will work with my dock and it is connecting fine--it is working with my connected peripherals (keyboard, mouse, external USB speaker and external USB camera) with no issue. However, it is not detecting any external monitor connections at all. If I unplug one of the monitors and plug it into the laptop directly settings will show two monitors. But anything plugged into the dock is not detected automatically nor when i press "Detect," and it does not matter whether I use the HDMI or DisplayPort connections. I have unplugged and replugged several times and tried rebooting both with and without the dock plugged in.
This SHOULD work given A. It is listed in the manual as an option and B. This is a newer version of a model where it worked perfectly well. I have invested hundreds, if not thousands of dollars into multiple monitors, peripherals, and this dock and I cannot do my job with one external monitor and a laptop monitor. Please help me to figure out why every other jack on the dock is being recognized but not the DisplayPort or HDMIs.
