Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I am attempting to play a game on my laptop but am unable to use the touchpad while I am "walking" (typing) on the keyboard. I have been trying to fix the issue and this is what I have tried so far with no fix:

-Updating Synaptics Touchpad Driver to newest

-Can't find option specifically for disabling touchpad while using keyboard

-Disabled "SmartSense"

-PalmTracking is no longer a visible option for me in the device settings

-Fully updated all drivers, frameworks, and  Microsoft Visuals

This is actually my girlfriends laptop and I could just give her a wireless mouse but she oddly feels more comfortable using the mouse pad lol. Whoever finds a solution to this will have my eternal thanks and blessing because I am at my wits end.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I understand that the touchpad in your pc is not working, need not worry I'll be glad to assist you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you facing this issue after an update?

How long are you facing the issue?

In the meantime, I have a few steps that should help resolve this issue:

· Go to your device manager (Right click Computer, click manage, select device manager)

· Right-click the device name in the list that corresponds to your keyboard

· Click update software driver, click browse computer for drivers

· Click search from a list of existing drivers

· Uncheck show compatible hardware

· Select Microsoft on the left side

· Select Microsoft Basic Mouse.

· Click next and install the driver.

· Then restart your computer in normal mode, and if the keyboard and mouse work, reinstall the drivers from the manufacturer website.

Then, restart the computer and tap on F10 during restart, once on BIOS screen, move the mouse cursor around to check if it works normally,

If it does, it would confirm a software issue and you follow the below steps if it doesn't work on its a hardware failure and I would suggest a touchpad replacement.

I recommend you to uninstall any generic synaptic drivers showing up for the touchpad (if available) under hidden devices from the device manager:

  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

  • At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

  • Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

start devmgmt.msc

  • Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager.
NOTE: Click Show hidden devices on the View menu in Device Manager before you can see devices that are not connected to the computer.

  • When you finish troubleshooting, close Device Manager.

  • Type exit at the command prompt.

Note that when you close the command prompt window, Window clears the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 variable that you set in step 2 and prevents ghosted devices from being displayed when you click Show hidden devices.

And then download a new version of the synaptic drivers using this link: Click here

Keep me posted, how it goes.

Good Luck.

Dear raj1788,

I understand that you have a lot of support queries that you have to attend to. However, I humbly advise you to at least read the content of a query before adressing it with your go-to pasted solution, as this is hurting your credibility as a staff member, and hurting the credibility of HP Support as a whole.

In this case, original poster abandoned the subject not because the problem is resolved, but because they lost faith in the ability of HP Support to provide any relevant solution, as they clearly stated that the device is working properly for all but a setting they can't find how to disable. Your answer with solution to make a broken device work again is then obviously irrelevant.

Thank you for understanding, I wish you the best for future endeavor.
