HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K632AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When extending the display to my LG 32inch monitor (Main display) while keeping the laptop lid closed, it all works fine for around 5 minutes and then some windows move back to the laptop screen (since I am unable to see them on the main display). Display/Power settings are as follows:

screen Saver - None

Power settings - When I close the lid - ON battery "DO nothing" / Plugged in - "Do nothing"

Display - Laptop set as display 1 and Main display as display 2 - Extend these displays

Display resolution - Laptop 2880 x 1800 Recommended  Main display 3440 x 1440 Recommended

Connected via USB -C running on power supplied through display cable. No main power supply unit connected.

Main display has checkbox for "Make this my main display " option checked.

The strange thing is that when I click on the "Detect other display" button it says "We did'nt find another display" even though the monitor is connected and is working.

Worked flawlessly with a Mac Book Pro before this with the same setup

Any help appreciated.

Hi @AlphaPapa09,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be an issue with how your HP Spectre x360 is managing display settings when the laptop lid is closed. Here are a few things you can try to resolve this.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website or use Windows Update to check for the latest graphics drivers for your HP Spectre x360. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues.

Check Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings. Ensure that your main display is set as Display 2 and the laptop display is set as Display 1. Confirm that "Extend these displays" is selected.

Use the Windows Key + P Shortcut:

  • Press Windows Key + P and choose Extend. This might help reset the display settings.

Disconnect and Reconnect the Monitor:

  • Try disconnecting the LG monitor and reconnecting it. Sometimes, a simple reconnection can help the system recognize the display properly.

Check Power Settings Again:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what closing the lid does. Double-check that both "On battery" and "Plugged in" are set to Do nothing.

Reconfigure Display Settings:

  • Open Display settings and click on Detect to see if Windows can recognize the external monitor. If it doesn't, try manually rearranging the displays by dragging and dropping them in the settings window.

Ensure USB-C and Power Settings:

  • Verify that the USB-C cable you're using is properly connected and capable of carrying both power and video. Since you mentioned no main power supply unit is connected, make sure the display cable can provide sufficient power.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues.

Check the Monitor’s Settings:

  • Ensure that the LG monitor’s settings are correctly configured to accept input from the USB-C connection.

Test with Another Cable or Port:

  • If possible, try using a different USB-C cable or a different port on the laptop to see if that resolves the issue.

Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:

  • Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues. Check the HP Support website for any BIOS/UEFI updates for your HP Spectre x360.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
