HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV)

Hi all, I need to connect 2 external monitors to my laptop, so as to extend (not mirror) the desktop over the three displays.

My laptop has :

  • One HDMI port : used for external monitor #1)
  • One USB 3.1 Type C post : useless to connect a second monitor because it does not support video, only data.
  • Two USB 3.1 Type A ports: one used for the mouse, and one available.

I see two methods to possible connect the second external monitor:

1. Use an HDMI splitter or adapter on the HDMI port. This method poses 2 questions:

  • Does the graphic card on my model support  2 monitors (with extended desktop, not duplicate) through the single HDMI port ?
  • Is there such a thing as a HDMI splitter or adapter to extend the desktop over 2 displays, as opposed to duplicating the video output ?

2. Ad a USB to HDMI adapter on the available USB 3.1 Type A port. Question: can the USB 3.1 Type A port on my model be used to output video ?

Thanks in advance for your ideas and insights !

HDMI splitter is a joke. If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter
