I am trying to connect my laptop to an external monitor using HDMI, but the monitor says 'No cable connected.' I have tried using a different cable, and I have also tried using a different monitor (tried multiple monitors from BenQ and Samsung at my workplace). But none are working. The laptop connects to the projector through HDMI at my workplace without any problems.

The laptop does detect the external monitor, I can see it in the display settings, but the monitor is not detecting the laptop.

I have updated the graphics driver, display adapter driver and also the BIOS for my laptop. Any suggestions?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support, in connecting an external monitor with the notebook.

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

Try to change the resolution in the computer and check if it work's out. Please let me know the exact product number of te notebook since we have multiple models with the same series. 🙂

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Eager to help!

I tried all possible resolutions, but the external monitor still does not work. I have never before tried connecting to an external monitor, so I do not know if this problem has always existed or if it is a new problem. The laptop has always worked with projectors without any issues.

My model number is 13-4105dx.

It looks like you were interacting with @Barachiel, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out, I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service (Like a Genie without magic powers) 😉

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

You've already checked with alternate monitors and yet the issue persists, hence I suggest you check with an alternate HDMI cable and check if that makes a difference.

Also, you may want to check if the mini-display port works instead, if the issue with HDMI persists, you've done great updating the drivers, that said, I would request you to use the lowest resolution on display settings and check if that works with the monitor.

Keep us posted,

(We shall troubleshoot as a team, fight till the end and emerge victorious)

I tried using another HDMI cable and the display port as well, but still the same problem.

Thank you for your reply.

I truly appreciate your hard work and patience.

You may refer to the information mentioned in setting display properties to use additional displays, switch between displays using notebook function keys and setting display resolution from this HP document.

Hope this information helps. Let me know.

Good luck! 🙂
