I have a HP ZBook Fury G8 Mobile Workstation PC, and since December 2024 the USB-C port for external monitors (via a USB-C to 2 HDMI adapter) is not working anymore, before it was working correctly.

I tried on different monitors and different adapters, the problem stays, so the problem comes from the computer.

I can still use one external monitor via HDMI, but I really to use need two external monitors.

I have installed the latest Windows updates, I tried to update the USB drivers and Windows tell me I have the latest ones.

What else can I do?

Here is how the issue could be solved:

  1. Disconnect all USB/peripheral devices from the machine. Also disconnect your power adapter.
  2. Hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds. It should power off after a few seconds but continue holding the power button.
  3. Plug the power adapter back in and power on. Once the machine powers on, plug the peripheral USB devices back in including your USB-C > HDMI adapter.

If someone has the same problem and the above steps do not solve the issue, maybe try it several times, and try to remove as well the battery and still hold the power button for 10 seconds to drain capacitors.

How often you plug/unplug the USB-C port ? Please also check the adapter itself for tear and wear
