I am experiencing the same problem, monitors go black randomly, i have a Fury I9 with 128 gigs of ram and the dock station is a brand new thunderbolt gen 4.

Has someone fixed this?

Yes for me a workaround. Pls view my earlier posts. I u graded by cables and provided specific specs and conditions. Some members reported that it worked and some didn't.

Good luck. In either instance call hp so that they take this problem seriously and collect user data for long term resolution.

I had the same problem with my external monitors suddenly going black for a couple of seconds, multiple times a day.

Dock used was the G5.

Laptop HP ZBook G9 Fury

2 Iiyama 1080p monitors, first connected with 2 DP to HDMI cables.

It needs to be said that i have used these monitors in several setups with older HP docks and laptops (First the HP slim dock, after that the HP G5 essential) and also with a Desktop PC. Never had any problems before...

What did i try to resolve this problem:

  • Update the firmware to latest version.
  • Buy some new (good quality) DP to DP port cables. My Iiyama monitors have both HDMI and DP connections, so i swapped that around and connected the G5 dock to the monitors using good quality DP to DP cables. But, the problem occured just as much as it did before.
  • Plugin the power cord of the laptop. I had read about the newer ZBooks need a lot of power to function properly and USB-C itself can only provide 100W max, maybe (long shot) it would do something the USB adapaters when falling short of power. But, no difference again.

Furthermore i noticed that i do not have the problem when using the office dock (G2) with the same laptop. But this dock also has 2 HP monitors connected, so not entirely the same setup as my home office with the G5.

So i decided to buy another dock, the G2 (the lower model, with only USB-C cable, so almost the same as the G5 you would say). And now i am running a couple of days already without any monitor blackout.

So i am quite sure that whatever the difference between the G2 and the G5 docks is causing the problem (something with thunderbolt/displaylink?). Too bad i needed to buy yet another dock for this and HP is not really trying to fix this issue on the G5 docks (at least, they refer to this forum for customer support, but i cant see HP replies here?).

HP won't reply here. I've received confirmation from the HP digital team that no one monitors this forum. It is a total shame.

As for my problem, it has gone away with the DP to DP high quality swap out. FYI, when I'm in the office, the Amazon portable hubs are used, it supports two monitors. It's cheap and it works running it all day. My recommendation is to go this route and forget the HP dock.  I had switched to HP from the Dell Brick, both failed. Lesson learned for next time is that you don't need to buy anything expensive.

On an aside, my battery life on HP Dragonfly Folio is terrible and nothing like they have advertised, nothing! I have a separate community post on that one.

Good luck everyone.

Quite big BIOS update: 01.06.03 Rev.A

I installed today and I will check if it will change something. My monitors off and on 1-3 times per week. (HP Fury 16 G10 + HP Thunderbolt Dock 280W G4 + 3 monitors, notebook itself closed + high quality cables)

It seems that HP Support Assistant does not detect new firmware version for docking stations.
When I select docking station, "No updates" appeared.

My docking station is: HP Thunderbolt Dock 280W G4
When I check manually docking station firmware on hp support web page, I see a new version 1.5.24.0 Rev.C from 06/24/2024 available,
while I have version 1.5.22.0 installed.

I installed it today and I will check...

Changes:

  • Fixes external display connection and stability issues.
  • Fixes an issue where a USB-C monitor connected to the USB-C port on the dock cannot be detected when the system is connected to a DisplayPort, a HDMI, and a USB-C monitor.
  • Fixes an issue which causes an abnormal shutdown to occur when the system enters S3 (Standby) or resumes from S3 after the power button is pressed on the HP Thunderbolt G4 Dock while all ports are connected.

It seems that after installing the new BIOS update from 09/2024 (01.06.03 Rev.A) and updating the firmware of the docking station (1.5.24.0), the issue has worsened. I am now experiencing several monitor outages every day (randomly affecting the middle, left, or right monitor), whereas previously, there were only a few outages per week.

I have opened a case with HP support. They informed me that they didn't find a similar issue in their database and have escalated the problem to HP engineers. However, I believe the person I spoke to may have searched incorrectly, as there must be other similar cases already reported on this topic.

Hello,

I received some tools from HP’s 2nd-level support. They recommended disabling DPMStDSC in the registry with the following keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000]
"DpMstDscDisable"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001]
"DpMstDscDisable"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0002]
"DpMstDscDisable"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0003]
"DpMstDscDisable"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0004]
"DpMstDscDisable"=dword:00000001

I applied these changes on the ZBook 16 G10 and restarted the notebook, but the issue persists.

When connecting via HDMI or DisplayPort, the issue still occurs with the display.

Using three monitors, whether connected via DisplayPort or HDMI, does not resolve the issue. However, when I connect a display via a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, the display functions without any problems. But only the one which is connected trought the Adapter

I think this issue may be related to the hybrid graphics setup with Nvidia and Intel. On Reddit, you can find several threads discussing similar problems

Best regards,

I believe a 100% working fix for this issue has been posted several (or many) pages back. New, high quality cables solved the issue for many. I plan to change my cables out if this is true, I’ve just been too busy with work, a new baby etc. go dive back into this. Maybe someone else can confirm?

HP Recommended

I am more and more convinced the real problem is that the signal is too weak. A better quality cable can make the signal less susceptible to noise from power cables, but it is not normal that a digital signal requires such quality cables.
