Hi @DANKARIS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

A brief flicker when connecting or disconnecting the AC adapter can sometimes be related to the display driver or the way the system switches power/display states. However, since you also see the screen temporarily switch off while using the mouse, I would like to determine whether this is a Windows/display-driver issue or something affecting the display hardware. HP recommends checking the display both outside Windows and with an external monitor when troubleshooting display problems.

Could you check these two things for us?

1. Check the screen in BIOS

  1. Shut down the Spectre completely.
  2. Turn it on and immediately keep tapping Esc until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F10 to enter BIOS.
  4. Leave the system on the BIOS screen for a few minutes and check whether the screen flickers or switches off.

Let us know whether the flickering occurs inside BIOS as well. This is an important check because BIOS runs independently of Windows and helps separate a Windows/driver issue from a possible hardware/display issue.

2. Test with an external monitor

If you have access to an HDMI or compatible external monitor/TV, connect it to the Spectre and check whether the external display also flickers when:

  • Connecting the AC adapter
  • Disconnecting the AC adapter
  • Moving/using the mouse when the issue normally occurs

If the internal screen flickers but the external display remains stable, that points more toward the notebook's internal display path. If both displays flicker at the same time, the graphics system or software becomes more relevant. HP uses an external-monitor test to help distinguish these types of display problems.

Also, let us know the exact Spectre model/product number and whether the screen goes completely black for a moment or simply flashes/dims.

With those results, we can narrow this down and determine the appropriate next step rather than having you try unrelated fixes.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
