HP ENVY - 17-s143cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have this grey smudge hiding behind my taskbar that starts in the center and continues to the right corner . It is not dead pixels or backlight issues. This is not a software issue.  It seems to be an issue with the diffuser sheets behind the lcd panel. I never noticed it since I don't usually use the full screen option, but recently I have been watching videos on full screen and its really noticeable. its likely been there when i bought it being hidden by the taskbar. Can anything be done since it is a factory defect but the warranty is expired ?

included is photo of the defect and what it normally looks like without full screen mode

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

Based on the information I can find on the model, the series was introduced in 2017.

That is a long time "out of Warranty".

If you are asking whether HP will fix a four or five year old screen, my opinion is No, HP will not fix this for you.

You can certainly entertain the idea of fixing the screen yourself or you can take the computer to a qualified hardware technician to get an estimate on whether the parts are available and the cost for the repair.
