For Product number: G6R08UA#ABA, we have graphics driver trouble.

Earlier we had tried to ID our adpater, per guidance on site, From AMD site, https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-55 ,

Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, click AMD, Properties,
In Details tab, select Hardware Ids under Property, read/copy …
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9851&SUBSYS_2268103C&REV_05
The bolded segment in the Hardware ID string indicates that the graphics card Device ID is 9851, and the Subsystem Vendor ID is 103C.
To identify the model of the graphics card using its Device ID, refer to a 3rd party website: Device Hunt1
On the Device Hunt website, [Select Mfr &] enter the graphics card Device ID in the Device ID field (as shown below) and click the Search icon.  Result:
TypeVendor IDVendor NameDevice IDDevice NameMorePCI1002Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]9851Mullins [Radeon R4/R5 Graphics]Vendor Device
Device Name Mullins [Radeon R4/R5 Graphics]

We get on-boot warnings that we have no graphics driver.

Lately, we tried HP Support Assistant, DL Assistant, and likely a Diagnostics Assistant.

Character errors on display show missing & partial letters for text in Word, Chrome Gmail message composition, etc.

An “AMD Catalyst Install Manager v 08.00.0916 has not helped.  Ran Express option, reboot, same error message.  Ran CID again, tried Custom.  Panel claimed our display driver is installed (V 15.201... , 90.5 MB) and up to date.

AMD AutoDetect failed, and for manual fix, on AMD site I could not spot an adapter matching my notebook's adapter name.

How can I find and install the appropriate video driver?

We tried the recommended W10 graphics driver. It seemed to run normally, and we copied its progress log, though I could not interpret it appropriately.

We rebooted and saw the Same error report for missing display driver.

Recalling a similar issue about a year ago, we tried System file checker:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>SFC /SCANNOW

Result: “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.”

As from year-ago procedures, we checked some AMD notes and links.

The Radeon link had been updated and includes a link,

We begin with AMD Cleanup Utility, at page. (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601)

AMD required its run in Win Safe Mode, which we allowed.

AMD Cleanup Utility reported that it had completed with warnings:

I saved the progress log, but I could not interpret it.

The warnings seemed ominous, but after reboot, the no-driver warnings have not re-appeared.

The system also did a (Windows?) update & reboot, then forced another reboot for a HW device whose ID I have forgotten.

We had not re-run the CID install utility after running the AMD Cleanup Utility.

When we finally got to Device Manager, Display, it showed the installed driver, “AMD Radeon ™ R5 Graphics.”

System graphics seemed corrected, so I think we’re fixed for this round of “updates and fixes.”

Hi:

Below is the link to the W10 graphics driver from your notebook's support page...

This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.
