Dear Community,
I had a discussion here earlier, with the same issue, but then the problem has been solved with the help of this solution: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Fingerprint-scanner-not-working/td-p/...
The fingerprint reader worked arond 3 month properly and then it stopped working again ca. 3 month ago. I simply cannot understand how can this happen with a less-than a year-old high-end laptop.
Last time the problem was that Windows Hello wasn't even able to see if I had a fingerprint reader built in my laptop. Now everything seems ok at first sight (pic 1 - translation: Touch the fingerprint reader - Place your finger on the sensor and lift it over and over again until the end of the setting)
When I do that the next one immediately pops up (pic 2 - translation: An error occured. Close Windows Hello and start the process all over again)
As I mentioned I have already tried deleting and reinstalling the driver, but that didn't give a solution.
I am tierd of this whole scenarion, so I hope you could help me resolve my issue as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance,
Boldi

Consider
- Device Manager > View “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
- Open category Biometric devices
- Look for and Right-Click on the fingerprint reader device > Properties
- Tab Power Management
- UN-Check, “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
===========================================================================
What else?
Check the Device Manager for your Device type
Make sure your Fingerprint driver is the newest available for your device.
Device Manager - Biometrics Information
- Device Manager > View “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
- Open category Biometric devices
- Look for and Right-Click on the fingerprint reader device > Properties
- Tab Details
- Under Property, “Device description”
- Under Value, look for the PID number

What else?
Aside from the hardware, that is, the aside from the actual fingerprint sensor, the rest of the configuration is primarily in the control of Windows.
What does that mean?
IF you have migrated your Operating System version beyond the support provided by the HP software and drivers, then any operation / software / driver no longer supported must be handled by Windows. This is generally not a problem - Windows is much smarter than it was just a few years ago.
That said, most of what you can do with your Fingerprint Sign-in is managed by Windows.
The option is a Windows feature.
