My HP Spectre x-360 fingerprint scanner worked a few times and now not at all. I've reloaded my fingerprint - same issue. And my webcam simply stopped working and blogs just tell me I have to reinstall my system. The laptop tells me I have no webcam.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with both the fingerprint scanner and the webcam on your HP Spectre x360. Here are steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:

Fingerprint Scanner Not Working:

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the section for Biometric devices or Human Interface Devices.
  • Look for your fingerprint scanner. It should be listed as something like "Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader" or similar.
  • If there's a yellow exclamation mark or it's not listed, there may be a driver issue.

Update Fingerprint Driver:

  • Right-click on the fingerprint scanner device and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software to let Windows search for the latest driver. Install it if found.
  • Alternatively, visit the HP support website, enter your laptop model (HP Spectre x360), and download the latest fingerprint driver. Install it manually.

Check Biometric Settings:

  • Press Win + I to open Settings, then go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
  • Scroll down to Windows Hello and check if Fingerprint is available and set up correctly.

Clear and Re-add Fingerprint:

  • In Settings, under Sign-in options, remove your current fingerprint and set it up again.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to ensure your fingerprint is registered properly.

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there's a BIOS update available for your HP Spectre x360 on the HP support website. Sometimes BIOS updates include fixes for hardware compatibility and functionality issues.
