Hello,

2 days ago I got this laptop and i have been all over the internet trying to fix the fingerprint scanner. The sensor doesnt show up in the device manager and when i try to download and install the correct driver. the setup.exe just wont launch.

it doesn't say anything about this in the manual and none of the bloatware hp gives you that are supposed to help you didn't help me at all.

If you need any more information just ask.

PS. i am sorry for sounding frustrated but man this got on my nerves.

Did you buy Finger print option for your machine ? The whole series specs:

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06191146#AbT7

And  HP Fingerprint Sensor (sold separately or as an optional feature).

If NOT, your machine has a small window BUT no sensor inside underneath the keyboard (right hand side)

If you wish, you can buy

  • Fingerprint sensor assembly part # L45096-001
  • NOTE:The fingerprint sensor cable is available in the Cable Kit using spare part number L45087-001.

I dont think you read my post correctly, but i will try to explain the driver problem better because i think i didnt do a very good job at it either.

When i download the fingerprint driver for my model and run the sp93499.exe  it install everything correctly in the directory it showed me but then it does nothing. and when i manually try to open the setup exe in the dir. it just doesnt do anything.

 that is my problem.

if you can help me fix this, that would be wonderful.

If you are 100% sure that you have bought machine with fingerprint scanner then it's clearly a hardware problem because drivers/software problem appears in the Device Manger with some error codes. 🙂

My advice is to Ask for replacement laptop!

Thank you for helping me realise that. but i still think HP needs to make that more clear because its no where shown in the manual nor the specs.
