Hello, my laptop has to graphics , the one integrated (Vega 8 graphics ) and the "good one" (NVIDIA 1050) . I have setted the pc setting in order that the "good one" is the one running the games and stuff and i know the other one has other jobs simultaneously that dont require much effort. My question is that if i change the display setting on BIOS, so that the pc uses the NVIDIA to be the main display , will this unlock a higher frame rate for my monitor(144hz)?. I used to believe that my pc had 144HZ but as the display adapter is the one using the "bad" graphic card hte maximum amount allowed to set is 60HZ.
Thanks in advance

Hi @Topita,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
It's great that you've set your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec0xxx to use the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 for gaming and other demanding tasks. If you are considering changing the BIOS settings so that the NVIDIA GPU becomes the main display adapter, it's important to understand the implications.
Switching Main Display Adapter in BIOS
Changing the primary display adapter from your integrated Vega 8 graphics to the NVIDIA GTX 1050 via BIOS settings could have several effects:
Impact on Performance and Battery Life:
- Increased Performance: You may experience better graphics performance since the NVIDIA GTX 1050 is dedicated and more powerful.
- Battery Drain: The dedicated GPU consumes more power compared to integrated graphics, leading to reduced battery life.
System Stability:
- Driver Compatibility: Ensure that your NVIDIA drivers are up to date to avoid potential system conflicts or instability.
- Heat Generation: The dedicated GPU might generate more heat, which could cause thermal issues if not properly managed by your cooling system.
Steps for Changing BIOS Settings
Follow these steps to change the display settings in the BIOS:
- Restart Your Laptop.
- Enter BIOS: Press F10 repeatedly when the HP logo appears during boot.
- Navigate to Advanced Settings: Look for the option related to graphics display or integrated graphics.
- Set NVIDIA as Primary: Change the setting from Vega 8 to NVIDIA GTX 1050.
- Save and Exit: Save your changes and exit the BIOS.
Before making changes in the BIOS, consider the following:
- Use Windows Settings: Windows 11 allows you to specify which GPU should be used for different applications without changing BIOS settings.
- Monitor Performance: After making changes, monitor the laptop’s performance and temperature to ensure there are no adverse effects.
I hope this helps.
