Microsoft Windows 11

A few weeks ago, I updated my HP Envy x360 Laptop to Windows 11. Since then, my screen will suddenly go black and flash (audio will continue working in background). I press the power button or ESC and after a few moments, I can usually again see the display and the applications/tabs I was working on. However, the screen is fuzzy and shaky. It is difficult to read because the entire screen is dynamic and fuzzy. The fuzziness temporarily goes away when I restart the computer.

At first after the update, this was happening infrequently (~1 time/day).  It is increasing in frequency, and now goes black/fuzzy once every ~1 hour.

Has anyone else experienced this issue since updating? Please help! I have checked for additional updates and tried the HP Support Assistant - no luck!

Hi @SherryDowling,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some display driver or compatibility issues, especially since the problem started after updating to Windows 11. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.

  • Update Graphics Drivers: Visit the HP website and make sure you have the latest graphics drivers for your specific model of Envy x360. Sometimes, the default drivers provided by Windows Update might not be the most compatible or optimized for your hardware.
  • Rollback Graphics Drivers: If the issue started immediately after updating the graphics drivers, try rolling back to the previous version. Sometimes, newer drivers can introduce compatibility issues.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Although you mentioned you've checked for updates, it's always a good idea to double-check if there are any pending updates, especially for drivers and system patches. Windows 11 is relatively new, and updates could improve compatibility.
  • Run Windows Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters for various issues, including display problems. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and run the troubleshooter for Hardware and Devices.
  • Check Event Viewer: Look for any error messages or warnings related to graphics or display in the Event Viewer. This might give you more insight into what's causing the problem.
  • Perform a System Restore: If the issue started immediately after updating to Windows 11, you could try rolling back to a previous system restore point before the update. This will revert your system to a state where it was working correctly.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting any major changes to your system, such as driver updates or system restores. This will ensure that you don't lose any important files in case something goes wrong.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
