Hi all,

Just made an account on the forum as I really need help to find asolution to my problem. I am trying to use the HDMI port on my laptop however when I plug the cable in, nothing happens. The screen does not flicker or anything. I have no idea how to fix this issue as I have already tried installing the display driver again and that didn't work. Could someone please help or possibly aid me in finding the right driver for the HDMI port?

Thanks,

Connor

Hi Jared,

Unfortunately, the laptop is nowhere within warranty. Although I've marked this reply as the solution as (thanks to you) I had the idea to use an adapter instead. So thanks! Problem solved!

Thanks,

Connor

@Connor158910,

Thank you for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums!

I see from your post you need assistance with the HDMI driver for your HP Notebook.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to check with a different HDMI cable?

Did you try to update the drivers either using Windows update or using HP Support Assistant?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook

Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

  1. Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

  2. Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. That way it will look at the Hardware installed on the Notebook.

Once done, restart the computer and check.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the display drivers on your PC from device manager.

Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.

Check the box that states delete the software for this device.

Now restart the computer and then update the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC either from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP Support Assistant

Download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

Hello Jeet. Thanks so much for your reply.

The HDMI port has not been working for a while so I performed a clean install of the machine. Windows update has no more updates available and I have tried numerous cables as well as testing them in other devices to no avail. I have already tried to flash the BIOS and have reset the CMOS as well however nothing seems to be working! I have tried the windows update troubleshooter and tried uninstalling the display drivers. I even performed another clean install to make sure that it wasn't a driver issue. I checked through the article too and couldn't find anything to help. The problem is the computer does not recognise when a HDMI device is plugged in. There is no sound no screen flash, nothing. Please help!

Thanks,

Connor

Hi Connor,

What sort of device are you plugging the HDMI cable into?

Is it a HDMI port on the device as well?

I ask because if it's a DisplayPort device you'll need a powered HDMI adapter similar to this one - https://www.alogic.co/alogic-hdmi-to-displayport-adapter-converter-male-to-female-premium-series.htm...

Hi Jared,

Haha no I'm sure it's a HDMI device. Although the laptop does have both a DP and HDMI port.

No worries Connor,

Surprised me the day I found out that I needed that adapter so thought I'd share.

Sounds like you have a hardware fault on your laptop if you can't get any HDMI device working. Hopefully it's still under warranty or at least cheap to replace.

Good luck!
