HP 15t-da000 no name
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This laptop I got in early September 2019.  On 1-8-2020 my laptop was connected to my big screen 4K Ultra Sharp Aquous TV with a HDMI cable.  All of sudden my video streaming started going all Max Headroom on me, only the video sound is fine.  The action part of the video flickers/shimmies/jerks ONLY in full screen mode and the longer I attempt to watch the worse it seems to get.  First I switched to a high speed HDMI cable that I bought with the TV but was using it with another device and it worked fine.  The switch improved but did not resolve.

I've been working on this for several days now.  I've googled.  I've asked HP SA.  I've up dated drivers.  Updated software.  Installed HP SA 3 times since it all of a sudden keeps repeating that there is a newer version,...  Got fed up yesterday and attempted to do a "FACTORY" reset, couldn't find that but found a "reset" option yesterday.  After several hours of the resetting process, I started with a fresh laptop to NO avail.  The video stills flickers/shimmies,... in full screen mode ONLY.  I ordered another HDMI cable last night.  I doubt the cable is the issue.  I can plug the current cable into my HP Envy 17t-bw000 and full screen mode streams beautifully!

(The reset did not fix the HP SA newer version issue either.  Was told there was a newer version available when I opened SA to post this.  So, is there something newer than what I downloaded 12 hours ago???)  I HATE technology!

@Frustrated420,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the display on your TV.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the resolution you have selected on the TV when connected to the computer?

Have you tried changing the resolution on the computer for the TV?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp100501-101000/sp100759.exe

Graphics: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-15-da0000-laptop-pc/20395828/model/21869665

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

The last time I updated my BIOS recommended by HP on my 2018 Envy; it disappeared my internal cd player which created 2 days of computer frustrations  for me.

As far responding and or rating solutions, I just received the notification that you sent me a suggested fix.

I have not tried your suggestions because there have been other issues arise in attempting to figure all this out such as the HP SA telling me there's a new version every time I open it,.....

I do believe I have figured out what is the cause of the jitters:  HDMI does not handle streaming well when screen is duplicated.  Not sure why I had it in duplicate instead of extend.  Seems to be working fine in "extend".

Thank you for your time.

@Frustrated420,

I am glad that the issue is fixed.

For the HP support assistant issue, I recommend you uninstall HP support assistant from the computer and then download and install it from the below link.

Well it appears that the HDMI issue has NOT resolved but is subdued quiet a bit by not mirroring.  The video portion still  has some jitters but not as frequent or pronounced.  I have a 4k ultra sharp smart TV 2015 (smart function not near as good as connecting to a computer) and I stream mostly from HP 15t-da000.  I do have HP ENVY 17t-bw000 that I got about Aug 2018 and I have NONE of these issue when I plug the same HDMI cables,.... only change is which computer is streaming,.....

Something else the 15" does is goes black all of a sudden.  It has happened about 5 times now.  I forgot about that with the HDMI issue and the HPSA issue; however, just a few ago it went black when I was trying to read this message (no streaming).

I uninstalled the HPSA yet again to install from the link you provided.  Download completed and started installation process,...  computer says all those files already exist do I want to write over them which I have done a few times already so I said no and here I am,....

I emptied the recycle bin.  There are about 10 different "sp" files in the swsetup file one of which is the "sp99450", the HPSA files.

I want to factory reset this device but can only find this "resest" process that doesn't do exactly the same thing,....  I did the reset last week which created the HPSA issue because that is one of the few things that did not come back after the reset.  I did go to hp.com and start the HPSA download and in the middle of that MicroSoft popped up and said I had to get the HPSA from them, so I continued with them.  Prior to reset, I did go through ALL the update processes:  MS, HP, and individual drivers; and, again after reset.

Disappointed and perplexed,.....

Restore complete.  No HPSA anywhere on device.  I oscillate on downloading and installing HPSA for fear of "newer version available,...".  I will try the link you provided earlier during tomorrow's computer issue session.  I have a lot of other things I need to do.  Thank you.
