I found the same solution last week. Finally, I updated my laptop to W10 in July (2016) and haven't had HDMI since then. I got it to have skipping HDMI but nothing smooth. The other day I went looking again and found this file at AMD:
non-whql-64bit-nieg-radeon-crimson-16.2.1-win10-win8.1-win7-feb27 (exe). I deleted my old drivers and uninstalled the files and then the INTEL one came back after a power-up. Then I ran this new update and it fixed my problems also. I now have smooth HDMI -> TV video on my dv7-4183cl laptop (it isn't THAT old). I had about given up. Thanks AMD!!! HP doesn't say this one is available for my model, in fact, they say nothing is available. But the AMD crimson driver worked for me also.

Hi dear hp support,
the drivers of amd ati grafic cards on intel don't work at windows 8 or 10...so that your solution isn't solve the problem...like Ati radeon 5000 series...I was expecting Hp to be more analytical...I use the new and old (not very old) equipment at the same time with updated software...and I allways use HP, I'm not happy with that...

The drivers that get installed during Windows 10 upgrade do not support for example switchable graphics feature (for older laptops like G72). HDMI no longer works. As recommended on forums - to fix HDMI users can install AMD_UnifL/Catalyst_16.2.1_UnifL_v1.0.exe drivers like I did.
