Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a ViewSonic monitor with an HDMI port. However, when I try to connect the monitor using HDMI (both directly from the laptop port or on my 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator) all of the edges of the screen are cut-off. Oddly, if I use an HDMI to DVI adaptor to connect the monitor, the screen is not cut-off. Why would running it through an adapter work better than a direct connection?

Hi @TX_Ag_Ben,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! 🙂 Good day.  I read your post about the HP computer having issues with HDMI display I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

Stupendous diagnosis and spectacular analysis of the issue before posting.  Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with technical specialists like you. 🙂

We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information about it.

We need to isolate the issue correctly here.

Have you tried connecting a different HDMI cable to the monitor’s HDMI port and checked?

Have you checked the notebook by connecting it to a TV using an HDMI cable to isolate the issue further?

  • For starters please try with another HDMI cable.
  • Also, try to connect the notebook to a TV via HDMI and if the issue replicates on the TV, then, there is an issue with the notebook and not the Viewsonic monitor.
  • Please let me know the complete model# of the unit?

If a different HDMI cable does the same thing on the TV and the monitor, then update the bios, chipset and display drivers on the notebook and then try again.

To do this please visit this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions to update the drivers. Then check again.

If it fails and if the TV projects the HDMI display correctly, then the monitor’s HDMI port has an issue and it either needs to be serviced or replaced.

Yo will need to contact Viewsonic support in this regard.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
