Hello, I am experiencing intermittant erratic movement from my touchpad. It sometimes will not respond at all, or will jump around and select random items. I have uninstalled the touchpad software a few times with no improvement.
Please help..

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand, you’re experiencing an issue with the touchpad of your notebook,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
- When was the last time it worked without these issues?
- Does this happen on an application or anywhere while working on the laptop?
Here are a few steps we could try to fix this problem:
Update the Touchpad or Click Pad driver with Windows Update (Windows 10)
- In Windows, search for and open Settings, then click Update & security.
- Click Update & security.
- Click Check for updates.
- Windows Update checks for recent updates.
- The available updates are displayed and installed automatically.
- Restart the computer.
Perform a hard reset (Notebooks): Follow the steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01684768
Run HP PC UEFI Hardware Diagnostics Component test (F2) for Mouse:
Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) to run tests on the computer’s main components:
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu displays.
- From the main menu, run hardware tests and view the test logs, change the language, access system information, check the UEFI version number, and find the address for the UEFI website.
- Select Component Tests.
- Select Mouse. There are two mouse tests to determine if the mouse is functioning correctly, the Pointer Test and the Drag and Drop Test.
- Select the test you want to run and follow the instructions.
- Let me know the results.
You could adjust Touchpad or Click Pad pointing sensitivities following steps from this article: Click here

Hello and thank you for your response. Things have gone from bad to worse.
I unistalled both the mouse and touch pad, rebooted to no avail.
I attempted a restore to dec 18 and got an error msg that the restore was unsuccessful.
I attempted another to dec 8 and after about 2 hours the computer shut down. Upon start up, I got the blue screen which started it was collecting data and would restart. It never did. Had to pull battery to move on. I did f2 on start up and am currently running system extensive test with 5 plus hours renaining.
