HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fc0000 IDS Base Model

For some reason when my laptop tries to wake from sleep it wakes up but only displays a black screen. The machine turns on and it just displays a backlit black background. It is not a screen brightness issue. Other than the screen, everything runs as normal. If at that point I hook it up to an external monitor the display shows properly on the monitor, but not on the actual laptop's display. I have to reboot the computer to restore the display. It does not happen at reboot or power down. Only when waking from sleep. Why does this happen?

FYI, I updated all drivers, bios, etc.. There are no errors in the Device Manager. I even ran HP Diagnostics and everything checks out as good.

Try this video driver, it came out Sep 2024

Make sure you have BIOS F.12 or a newer one.

If the above do not work then try disabling fast start.

Disable fast start
To disable fast startup on Windows, open the Control Panel, navigate to Power Options, then "Choose what the power buttons do," and under Shutdown settings, uncheck the "Turn on fast startup" box; if the option is greyed out, click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" first.

let me know what you find out.

I did everything you said and it didn't work. It's actually worse now for some reason. The screen just remains black with no backlight this time. Nothing even displays at the bios load up screen at power up prior to loading Windows. The cable from the screen to the motherboard is properly connected and has never been tampered with. Please see below:

Bios version is F.13

Display drivers are the one you provided in the link (I already had it installed).

I removed fast startup:

I'm starting to think it is a bios issue.

It's odd that when I allow the HP Support website to detect my laptop it gives me a different looking laptop with a different model number. The picture even shows a different color laptop (mine is black, but the picture shows a silver one). However, it gives me the right SN# and Product ID. The model that is stated underneath the laptop says  15z-fc000, but it detects it as 15z-fc0000 IDS Base Model. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I wasn't able to find anything regarding support for the 15z-fc000.

I cannot find 15z-fc0000 and I only looked up the 15-fc0000 you listed.

See if you have cloud recovery

P is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

What is your exact product ID?
