I am constantly having issues with the trackpad activating and clicking on its own when im actually using the laptop on my lap. Sometimes its when you have a little bit of pressure on the sides of the trackpad, and the other time is when the laptop is at a downwards angle. The pad just clicks down and stays down, sometimes when typing and my wrists are on the sides it'll just click. is there a way to reinforce the trackpad or what to do to help it?

Literally tilting the laptop and the trackpad clicks every time.

Hi @migell,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Chromebook track pad that is malfunctioning.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

1. Restart Your Chromebook

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve trackpad issues. Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click on the power icon to restart.

2. Check Trackpad Settings

  • Go to Settings > Device > Touchpad. Make sure the touchpad is enabled and adjust the sensitivity settings if needed.

3. Update Chrome OS

  • Ensure your Chromebook is up to date. Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your device.

4. Clean the Trackpad

  • Sometimes dirt or oil can interfere with the trackpad's functionality. Gently clean the trackpad with a soft, dry cloth.

5. Check for Physical Damage

  • Inspect the trackpad for any visible signs of damage. If you see any cracks or other issues, it may need to be repaired or replaced.

6. Test in Guest Mode

  • Log out of your account and try using the trackpad in Guest Mode. If it works fine in Guest Mode, the issue might be related to your user profile or settings.

7. Reset Your Chromebook

  • As a last resort, you can perform a Powerwash (factory reset) which will erase all local data and restore your Chromebook to its original settings. Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash.

8. Check for External Interference

  • If you're using a mouse or other input devices, unplug them to see if they might be causing interference with the trackpad.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
